How magazines have changed

Empire Magazine: #97 (July 1997)
Issue #97 July 1997
This is an old cover from a 1997 issue, compared to the new issues this cover looks very outdated with very little artistic design. The title although similar looks very flat, the sell lines haven't changed too much but the font isn't very interesting. The head mast still keeps the same style with the main picture of the biggest review layered over it, the picture is from a photo shoot but not done by the magazine so the photo would have been used by various magazines to promote the film, and so is relatively simple compared to modern covers.

Empire Magazine: #261 (March 2011)Issue #261 March 2011               This is a modern issue from 2011 and compared to the 1997 issue you can see the difference, the whole background on the cover has been changed to promote the new release, and the picture is most probably from a photo shoot done by the magazine with lots of photoshop skills involved. Even the sell lines look far more interesting with bold colours and fonts, the title stands out far more with a better font and although the design is simple it is a big improvement from before. The buzz word Captain America has a bold font and stands out against the main image and the colours including the ancrhorage text underneath the buzz word work well against the background and stand out with whites and yellows. Overall you can tell that this cover has been designed by a professional designer and is far more eye catching to the customer.
